What’s New for BMW X5 2025
A lane-change assist feature is new to the X5 for 2025. Coupled with the optional Highway Assist hands-free driving feature, the lane-change assist system allows the driver to confirm a lane-change suggested by the X5 by simply turning their eyes toward the corresponding rear-view mirror. Once the system detects the driver’s confirmation, it performs the maneuver. Pretty cool on paper. When we get to drive an X5 with this setup, we’ll let you know how it works in the real world. Otherwise, the X5 carries over from 2024 without any other changes.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is the most unique new technology in the 2025 BMW X5?
The standout addition is the Active Lane Change with Eye Activation. When using the optional Highway Assist, the vehicle can suggest a lane change; the driver simply looks at the corresponding side-view mirror to confirm and initiate the maneuver hands-free.
Does the 2025 X5 require a plug-in for its hybrid system?
The standard sDrive40i and xDrive40i use a 48V Mild Hybrid system that is self-charging and does not require plugging in. However, the xDrive50e is a Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV) that offers an estimated 40 miles of all-electric range and does require external charging for maximum efficiency.
How much can the 2025 BMW X5 tow?
When properly equipped with the factory-installed trailer hitch, the 2025 BMW X5 has a maximum towing capacity of up to 7,200 lbs.
What are the main differences between the sDrive40i and xDrive40i?
The only major difference is the drivetrain: the sDrive40i is Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD), while the xDrive40i features BMW’s intelligent All-Wheel Drive (AWD) system for better traction in slippery conditions.
